Here's the shaded version of Barrel Race WIP
I am sorta happy with it. I mean, I have to be a little happy over anything I draw that has a human in it and then actually looks like a human. But I think it could have been better. I think I would have been able to fit all the details in if it were biger. It's only on 9' x 12' paper. So some stuff had to just be smudged in. I did try to take my time on it, sometimes even just touching the paper with the pencil. I wanted it to be real and live action-ish, but I think it turned out kind of flat. Sorry it's blurry, I'll upload a better picture tomorrow. It was cloudy and rainy all day. Check out the last western games picture I did way back in Jan.10'05. [link] Big difference aye?  The flatness look is there because its not done yet. The rider really looks like she's leaning forward. Grounding the horse (with shadows and whatnot) will really help too. Keep it up! I love your work.
 I love western art, too. Big country music fan, too. I like how it turned out! Brilliant shading! I think more dirt would have been nice, but the horse really looks in motion, and the rider is, uh, riding~! And nicely so.
I love Steeplechases. They showed one on the older show "Tales From Avonlea", and I loved it. Nature jumping race. Could it get any better? Are you talking about how most of the horse is white? If so, that's b/c he's a paint, and only his head was brown and a little on his butt. Yeah, he does need dirt and shadows around him more. A steeplechase (if you haven't looked it up yet), is basically a race with obstacles-- set around natural settings (or as many natural settings as can be had). Hedges, creeks, etc. So not only are the horses and riders racing, but they're jumping too! I can't remember if they do laps or not...
